Willow Weaving in First and Fourth - STEAM Fortnight
16th Oct 2025
It's STEAM fortnight at school right now. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths. Our First and Fourth Classes are teaming up for some activities and today we learned a little about weaving and tried out some new skills. At first we were trying to make some fish using willow rods we harvested from the school nature garden but it proved pretty tricky! We then combined the use of willow with some paper straws that we had. A video that helps show how to make a willow fish is here if you'd like to try at home. Thin sticks of willow or hazel that are fresh are probably best for the activity or otherwise a few days of soaking the sticks is necessary, otherwise they crack. Good luck!
